About John Legend

Often recognized for his angelic voice, singer and songwriter John Legend has dominated the music industry since 2004. Beginning as a self-starter, Legend produced, wrote, and recorded all of his own music; he even released two independent albums in 2000, and 2001. Originally performing small shows in Philadelphia, Legend realized that his fan base was growing, so he chose to perform in New York, Boston, Atlanta, and Washington D.C. His first debut album titled Get Lifted was released in December of 2004, and it landed at number 7 on the Billboard 200, selling more than 116,000 copies in the first week. In 2006 the album won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Album. Although this album was his first major accomplishment, he had plenty more where that came from. With such a distinct voice, many artists were practically begging Legend to feature on their albums including Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige, The Black Eyed Pease, and Fergie.

In 2006, Legend released his second album titled Once Again, and it boasted an even higher success rate than his last album; landing at number three on the Billboard 200. The album was certified platinum by the RIAA, and two of the songs won Legend two more Grammy Awards. The love for Legend was proven in 2006 when he was asked to perform at the pregame show of Super Bowl XL in Detroit, and at the halftime show during the 2006 NBA All-Star Game. There’s no surprise as to why he has such a large fan base either. Legend is extremely humble, and in 2008 he performed a free benefit concert in his hometown of Springfield, Ohio. After releasing his third studio album in 2008, people were blown away by how many Grammys Legend kept winning. He released his fourth studio album Love in the Future in 2013, and sold 68,000 copies in one week. Continuing to deliver quality work, Legend released his most recent album Darkness and Light in December of 2016 with songs that featured Miguel, and Chance the Rapper. With a total of ten Grammy Awards under Legend’s belt, we can’t wait to see what more he delivers in the future.
